Growing Families Save $ Moving to the Suburbs

Housing and childcare are typically the two largest budget items for growing families.  Once the subject of children comes up, parents are faced with the question “Where will we raise our kids?”  So what is the difference in dollars between Cities and Suburbs? Data collected from metro markets nationwide on housing and childcare costs in urban and suburban communities found that the suburbs have a 7% lead as being substantially cheaper than the city.  As an example, in the San Francisco area, a family will spend an extra $1,047 per month on combined housing and childcare costs.
